Commitment to Diversity

The first step the staff takes collectively to maintain diversity within our content is a consistently updated "Do Not Quote List" -- which can be found to the right. This list is updated at the end of each cycle, where I go through and write down each source used from within the St. Teresa's community. This list is kept to ensure that we represent as many students, teachers, and faculty members as possible in our content.

This year as chief, I have made a commitment to diversify our coverage than years past. Thankfully, COVID-19 and the Presidential election intitally made that easy. For political pieces, we pushed to reach out to students of all political ideologies to attain a well rounded perspective. We also covered Black Lives Matter protests occurring on campus (see "Photojournalism"), gender representation in clothing, mental health among many more. Once those topics had been covered we began to look toward different horizons, reaching for stories that would potentially challenge narratives around specific topics -- which we achieved. We felt it was important to represent all demographics of students at our school, by race, religion, color or gender, which led us to attempting to cover gender identity. Specifics on the initial censorship of this attempt can be read in my "Self Analytical Essay" in the "About" section. I can tell you that this year the publication made strives to demonstrate our commitment to diving deeper and representing students who otherwise do not feel so.
